Depression & Anxiety Therapy in Towson, Maryland

Anxiety that will not let you rest. A heaviness that makes ordinary days feel like uphill work. If that sounds familiar, you are not broken and you are not alone. Therapy offers a steady place to catch your breath and begin again.

When your own mind will not give you a break

Anxiety has a way of narrating everything. The racing thoughts at 3 am, the what-ifs that spin faster the more you try to stop them, the tight chest before a meeting or a phone call that should be simple. Depression often works the opposite way. Instead of too much, there is too little: energy, interest, color. You go through the motions, and even the things you used to love feel far away.

The two often travel together, and both are exhausting in a way that is hard to explain to people who have not felt it. You may look fine from the outside. You may be holding down a job, a family, a whole life, while quietly running on empty. Therapy is not about being told to think positive or try harder. It is about finally having a place where you do not have to perform being okay.

How therapy helps

In our sessions at my Towson office, we will work together to:

  • Understand the patterns behind your anxiety and low moods, and what tends to set them in motion
  • Learn practical ways to calm a racing mind and a keyed-up body, tools you can actually use in the moment
  • Notice and soften the harsh inner voice that keeps score of every mistake
  • Rebuild energy and routine in small, realistic steps, without shame about where you are starting
  • Reconnect with the people and parts of your life that depression has pulled you away from

Some people come to therapy in a crisis. Many others come because they have felt not quite right for months or years and are tired of white-knuckling it. Both are good reasons. You do not need to hit bottom to deserve support.

What working with me is like

I am Matthew Richardson, and my practice is built on one idea: no two people experience anxiety or depression the same way, so no two treatment plans should look alike. Sessions are unhurried and confidential, in a comfortable office on Allegheny Avenue in the heart of Towson, a short drive from anywhere in Baltimore County. Prefer to meet from home? Secure online sessions are available to clients anywhere in Maryland, with the same care and the same confidentiality as meeting in person.

Because hard seasons do not keep business hours, neither do I. Evening appointments are available Monday through Thursday, so getting support does not have to mean rearranging your whole life.

Common Questions

Depression and anxiety therapy, answered.

Do I need a diagnosis before starting?

No. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral, or the right words for what you are feeling. If something feels off and you want support, that is reason enough to reach out.

What if I have tried therapy before and it did not help?

That experience matters, and we can talk about it openly. The fit between you and your therapist makes a real difference, which is why I offer a brief consultation before you commit to anything.

How long until I start to feel better?

It varies from person to person. Many people notice some relief simply from having a place to say things out loud. Lasting change takes longer, and we will check in regularly on how it is going.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. In addition to in-person sessions at the Towson office, I offer secure video sessions for clients located anywhere in Maryland. Many people mix the two, coming into the office when they can and meeting online when life gets busy.

Do you offer evening appointments?

Yes. Evening sessions are available Monday through Thursday until 8:00 pm.

It does not have to stay this heavy.
