Loss changes everything, and there is no right way to grieve. Whether your loss is recent or years old, grief counseling offers a steady place to carry what you are carrying, with someone beside you.
Grief rarely follows the tidy stages we hear about. It can arrive as exhaustion, anger, numbness, guilt, or waves of sadness that show up without warning, months or even years after a loss. You might be functioning at work and falling apart in the car. You might feel pressure from people around you to be "over it." You might simply feel alone in it.
None of that means you are grieving wrong. It means you loved someone, and your life is reorganizing itself around their absence. Counseling does not rush that process or take the loss away. It gives you room to feel what you actually feel, out loud, without managing anyone else's comfort.
In our sessions at my Towson office, we will work together to:
Some people come after the death of a spouse, parent, child, or close friend. Others are grieving a different kind of loss: a divorce, a diagnosis, a job, a home, or a future they had planned on. All of it is grief, and all of it belongs here.
I am Matthew Richardson, and my practice is built on one idea: no two people grieve alike, so no two treatment plans should look alike. Sessions are unhurried and confidential, in a comfortable office on Allegheny Avenue in the heart of Towson, a short drive from anywhere in Baltimore County. Prefer to meet from home? Secure online sessions are available to clients anywhere in Maryland, with the same care and the same confidentiality as meeting in person.
Because grief does not keep business hours, neither do I. Evening appointments are available Monday through Thursday, so support can fit into a life that has not stopped moving.
There is no set timeline. Some people find a few months of sessions helpful; others continue longer. We move at your pace, and we revisit goals together as you go.
Neither. Some people reach out within weeks of a loss. Others come years later, when grief resurfaces around a life change or an anniversary. Whenever you arrive is the right time.
That is common, and it is fine. You do not need to arrive with the right words. Part of my work is helping you find them, at whatever speed feels safe.
Yes. In addition to in-person sessions at the Towson office, I offer secure video sessions for clients located anywhere in Maryland. Many people mix the two, coming into the office when they can and meeting online when life gets busy.
Yes. Evening sessions are available Monday through Thursday until 8:00 pm.
