Intimacy & Relationship Counseling in Towson, Maryland

Feeling distant from the person you are closest to is its own kind of lonely. Whether the spark has faded, trust has been shaken, or you have simply stopped talking about what matters, counseling offers a way back toward each other.

When close feels far away

It rarely happens all at once. The conversations narrow down to logistics, schedules, and the kids. Physical intimacy becomes loaded, or quietly disappears. Arguments end in silence instead of repair. Two people who once knew everything about each other start living like considerate roommates, and neither one remembers deciding to.

Underneath most intimacy struggles is the same ache: the longing to be truly known, and the fear of what happens if you reach for that and miss. Counseling gives you a place to reach safely. Not to relitigate old fights or assign blame, but to say the true things that have gone unsaid and to hear each other again.

How relationship counseling helps

In our sessions at my Towson office, we will work together to:

  • Name what changed between you, honestly and without blame
  • Rebuild emotional safety, so hard conversations bring you closer instead of driving you apart
  • Navigate mismatched needs, including differences in desire, affection, and connection
  • Repair trust where it has been strained, at a pace both of you can hold
  • Reconnect physically and emotionally, starting from wherever you actually are

Some people come with a partner. Others come alone, wanting to understand their own patterns in closeness before bringing anything to the relationship. Both are welcome here, and both can change things.

What working with me is like

I am Matthew Richardson, and my practice is built on one idea: no two relationships have the same story, so no two treatment plans should look alike. Sessions are unhurried and confidential, in a comfortable office on Allegheny Avenue in the heart of Towson, a short drive from anywhere in Baltimore County. Prefer to meet from home? Secure online sessions are available to clients anywhere in Maryland, with the same care and the same confidentiality as meeting in person.

Because tender conversations should not be squeezed between meetings, evening appointments are available Monday through Thursday.

Common Questions

Relationship counseling, answered.

Do we have to come together, or can I come alone?

Either. Some people start together, some start alone, and some alternate. Working on your own side of the relationship is real work, and it often shifts the relationship itself.

We have been distant for years. Is it too late?

Distance that built slowly can also be undone, and years of drift do not erase what drew you together. It takes willingness more than anything else, and showing up is the first act of it.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. In addition to in-person sessions at the Towson office, I offer secure video sessions for clients located anywhere in Maryland. Many people mix the two, coming into the office when they can and meeting online when life gets busy.

Do you offer evening appointments?

Yes. Evening sessions are available Monday through Thursday until 8:00 pm.

Closeness can be rebuilt.
